Welcome to my home page; my way of keeping in touch with friends and family while I am travelling around the world. This front page contains my latest journal entry - previous entries for this month are on the Journal page. Note, all entries are in reverse chronological order, with the most recent entry at the top. Photos on these pages are usually thumbnails linked to a larger, slower version of the photo. I also keep a foodblog, and have a flickr site with photos on it. NEW!! You can now buy cards and posters of my photographs here NEW!! 7 July I returned to England with renewed enthusiasm though sadly for a slightly shorter week of travelling. Getting to my destination was not quite as simple as for my visit in June. This time I had to fly into Bristol and then take a four hour train ride to get to St Austel to meet mum and dad. The things you do for love! The tours of stately homes of England continued, this time with the beautiful Lanhydrock. We couldn't go into the house, but were able to wander the glorious gardens, and have a peek into the little church. We left the grounds of this lovely estate refreshed in spirit, but ready to see more! As we drove, we saw a sign on a roundabout, pointing to the "Eden Project". Mum said she had heard about it, and would love to see it. Well, any excuse for an adventure, so we turned off and went to investigate. I hadn't heard of it before, have you? For those who haven't heard of the Eden Project... Imagine an abandoned clay pit in 1995. This bloke Tim Smit has this perhaps slightly barmy idea to create a place to save the most important plants in the world. Somehow how he sees this clay pit as the perfect site. The idea of building giant bubbles develops because they can settle on any shaped surface. 230 miles of scaffolding and 5 years later, the doors open on a quite extraordinary place:
We settled down in one of the very cool cafes for lunch. Food was a range of dishes, plate, planks of wood. You would think that after this much activity in the day, we would have had enough, wouldn't you? But no, we could squeeze just a little bit more in to the day. A short visit to the seaside town of Fowey where after a wee walk we enjoyed a very nice meal in a restaurant with all sorts of interesting movie memorabilia on the walls (including if I recall correctly, one of Marilyn Munroes dresses). I have no idea why I don't have any photos of them! I must have run out of battery or something..
