Journal for the month of June 2004

For updates on the last month or so before this, have a look at previous months' entries. Note, entries are in reverse chronological order, with the most recent entry at the top of the page. I also keep a foodblog, and have a flickr site with photos on it.

STOP PRESS

I have a semi definite date of arrival in Australia. 17 June, for 2 weeks.

14 June

Well, only a few days before I move back into my flat, and head off to Australia. Its all been a bit overwhelming trying to organise things. The exciting news I do have is that my security clearance finally came, so I am now able to sit and work on the same floor as my boss. It has made such a huge difference to my work.

I am developing a long shopping list for while I was in Australia... the little things that just aren't available. I am sure I could make my millions setting up an Aussie shop here. Vegemite, Milo, Jelly snakes and other such goodies are what I, and it seems many of my workmates are missing.

This month most of my focus will be towards my trip home, which will, in fact, take up half of the month. Last weekend I had to pack up the contents of my wee flat, and move it into the cave, piling the furniture up in the centre of the room, so that it could all be repainted.

I did however, get to kidnap my workmate Lucy and took her to Annecy for a day trip. The weather was superb, gloriously sunny and pleasant. We wandered around the lake edge and went through the chateau at the top of the hill. There is quite an interesting Roman exhibition on there at the moment, so if you are in town... <grin>

I have been back staying at Paul and Sheila's house, while they have been away on holidays, and I have been homeless. This weekend is the "fete de loisirs" in Gex, which involves street parties, fireworks and dancing in the streets apparently. I wasn't feeling up to the concept tonight, but tomorrow night I hope to have a look around, and maybe take some pictures for you.
