July
My other great achievement for July was the creation of new kitchen space. Check it out... am I a DIY goddess or what?
-------------The first weekend in July and it was Robert's turn to visit me. Robert's beard was replaced with a very silly moustache, to match the Pennsic delegation... but I like him anyway.
On Saturday Robert and I drove up to Hutwill to check out the medieval fair there. Despite a bit of geographic confusion we got there safe and sound. Robert teased me but not too much, because he knows if he teases me, I will have my revenge in the future... be afraid.. be very afraid! The fair itself was very small, but in some ways more interesting than many other medieval fairs I have been to, with some unusual handcrafts going on, including natural leather curing and dying, lace made of straw, bow making and items made out of hair!
We also got to see a very cute baby camel, with a very floppy wobbly hump indeed. Is that because he/she is young, or because he/she hasn't drunk enough? I just don't know.

On the way home we happened across a castle (darn, I can't remember the name of the town)... (ahah, I just asked Robert and he told me it is Burgdorf):
and then stopped too at Avenches where we ate delicious melon and prosciutto and watched the sun set over the chateau. I had wanted to show Robert the Roman amphitheatre, but it was all set up for the opera taking place that night... another time perhaps.
And thus, after a glorious sunset, we headed back to Geneva. Robert left the next morning to return to a cooler Sweden.
There was much more to be done in the month! My friend Patrizia's 2nd wedding (the church one) was in one weeks time, and I was catering it. Dinner for 80 people... what fun! Ok, so I admit it, my idea of a good time is not necessarily the same as other peoples. But in the midst of my preparations I had a couch surfing plea from a mum and daughter in France who needed a bed for a couple of nights. What could I do but say yes? So during the day I did this ---------------------->
and in the evening, we headed together out to see the "renaissance village" set up for the 500th anniversary of Calvin's birth. I have to say it was a pretty small and shabby affair, but still, amusing for a half hour. |

The next weekend was the big event. My friend Tamara came from Barcelona to help, and my friend Terry came from London. What gems they are the two of them! Sadly I don't have any photos from the catering at the wedding... I am hanging out and hoping that Patrizia and Ed got some from their photographer. I promise to post links if and when I can. Tamara and Terry worked like trojans. I also was singing at the wedding so had to nip out of the kitchen for a bit but we really spent most of our time in there chopping and cooking up a storm. It went a treat and compliments included Patrizia's mum asking me for my potato salad recipe, and one of the Italians saying that my pasta sauce was just like the one his mum makes. Can't ask for better than that!
Many people raved about the amazing spread of desserts, remarking that they had never seen so many desserts in one place! My idea, you see, was based on the fact that at weddings, it can be hard to choose what dessert you would like. So I just made lots and lots of teeny tiny desserts, so guests could have a tiny lemon meringue pie, and a teeny mousse au chocolat, and a wee morsel of a chocolate tart, a mere mouthful of berry fool, a sinless sliver of almond orange cake and a delicate bite of chocolate chip cupcake (etc.etc.etc).
